Award winning chefs

Santa Fe chefs have consistently been honored as some of the nation’s best.  Yet again, Santa Fe is home to three chefs who have been announced as semifinalists for a 2013 James Beard Award, out of the 44,000 originally nominated by the public.  James Beard awards, often called the “Oscars” of the food industry, have honored culinary figures since 1991 in categories including best chef and best restaurant in the nation.

Mark Kiffin, chef and owner of The Compound, won the 2005 James Beard Award for best chef in the southwest.  He was nominated and became a semifinalist again in 2013 in the outstanding service category and the best new restaurant category for his recently opened Albuquerque taqueria.  James Campbell Caruso, chef and owner of both La Boca and Taberna, is a semifinalist for the best chef in the southwest category.  Restaurant Martin, which is next door to El Farolito Bed and Breakfast, is home to chef Martin Rios, also a semifinalist in the best chef in the southwest category.  These, and many more restaurants, are located just minutes from our centrally located Santa Fe Bed and Breakfast.

For all of the nominees, as well as the city of Santa Fe, being nominated and reaching the semifinals is a tremendous honor.  These chefs are competing against other chefs and restaurants in the nation for top awards, an honor that continues to put Santa Fe at the top when it comes to food destinations in the US.  Finalists will be announced in New York City on May 6.  Whether you’d like to sample some of the world’s top-rated restaurants or seek out the local treasures, a stay at our Santa Fe Bed and Breakfast is the perfect way to experience Santa Fe’s world-renowned culinary arts.
