Every Christmas Eve is Santa Fe’s most beloved holiday traditions, the Canyon Road Farolito Walk. Thousands of people each year stroll up the gallery-lined street singing carols, meeting with friends, and enjoying artwork.
Farolitos (Spanish for little lantern) are small, sand-filled, paper bags illuminated with votive candles. Gallery owners and residents of Canyon Road line the streets and adobe walls with farolitos at dusk, with festivities starting shortly after. In addition, you’ll find people keeping warm around large bonfires, also known as luminarias. Several of the over 100 galleries on Canyon Road are open, sharing their incredible art collections, and sometimes hot cocoa and sweets!
Most restaurants along Canyon Road will also be open. For an upscale, fine-dining experience, try The Compound or Geronimo. Cozy up next to their pinon burning kiva fireplaces and delight in the finest cuisine the Southwest has to offer! Or for something more casual, dine at El Farol, a Spanish tapas restaurant.
