Celebrations for the Holidays

Santa Fe New Mexico with snow and paper lanterns on a sidewalkOne of our favorite things to do in celebration of the holidays in Santa Fe is to gather with friends and neighbors on the historic Santa Fe Plaza for the annual Santa Fe Tree Lighting Ceremony.  This event is a great time to get into the festive spirit of the holidays as we sing Christmas Carols, sip hot chocolate, and warm our hands over the open fires.  The resulting brilliant display of lights and festive decor at the historic central plaza is a sight to behold.  The historic Governor’s Palace is also the location for the much beloved Christmas at the Palace on December 11th, where the community can come together for an evening of hot cider, cookies, live music, piñatas, craft-making activities, a chance to operate an antique printing press, and of course a visit by the season’s favorite couple, Mr. and Mrs. Claus.  This wonderful event honors the holiday traditions of the Pueblo people and the Spanish settlers.

The Santa Fe Botanical Garden is again bringing back its popular light display, GLOW, just in time for the holidays.  This festive night includes an extraordinary display of winter lights, illuminated geodesic domes, festive food and beverages, and more.  Despite the wonderfully fun and festive events we’ve mentioned so far, there is perhaps no event more beloved in Santa Fe than the annual Farolito Walk, which takes place on Christmas Eve.  Farolito’s refer to the brown paper bags filled with votive candles.  They set the city aglow each Christmas Eve, as they are laid along the sides of downtown streets for the enjoyment of everyone.  This beautiful New Mexico tradition is a night of holiday perfection.  Thousands of farolitos set the city a-glow, the sound of carols rings through the air, and the city comes out hand in hand to stroll through the streets in admiration of this beautiful city and this wonderous holiday season.  Book your room at our Santa Fe Bed and Breakfast today, so you don’t miss these historic holiday traditions.
