The History of the Santa Fe Historic Plaza
The Santa Fe Historic Plaza was established all the way back in 1610 when New Mexico was settled by the conquistadors. Don Pedro de Peralta originally created the area as a fort to protect the chapel and residences inside. The walls were eventually demolished to make room for more housing and eventually a popular trade route that ran through the city. As you admire the plaza today, you can see the different architecture styles around it that reflect its diverse history.
