5 Of the Best Things to Do in Santa Fe In December
1. Botanical Garden GLOW
Every year, the Santa Fe Botanical Gardens transforms into one of the most spectacular light shows in the country. Carefully placed string lights, bulbs, lasers, and illuminated geodesic domes make up the showcase at the Botanical Garden GLOW event. Stroll through the thousands of lights in the gardens for a stunning experience before grabbing a mug of hot chocolate to warm up as you listen to live music!
2. Canyon Road FarolitoWalk
See the roots our Inn’s namesake origin comes from on the Canyon Road Farolito Walk. On Christmas Eve, the entire city gathers to walk down this road lined with shops, art galleries, and cafes. Thousands of farolitos, also known as luminaria, line the streets to cast a calming glow on the surrounding buildings and gardens. Piñon logs release their comforting aroma as they burn in the small bonfires throughout the street. Enjoy this time with friends and family, or use it to meet someone new as you walk.
3. Winter Indian Market
If you’re looking to get a unique souvenir or a last-minute holiday gift for someone back home, head to the Winter Indian Market. Not only is it one of the largest events in Santa Fe in December, but it is also central to the culture of our city. More than 150 artists gather to sell jewelry, paintings, pottery, and more. As you shop, you can enjoy live music and dance!
4. Enjoy the Outdoors
Just because Santa Fe gets a little snow from time to time doesn’t mean you have to stay indoors! If it snows during your time here in December, there are plenty of things to do. One of our favorite ways to get outside is snowshoeing. You don’t have to have any special set of skills to strap on snowshoes, and it is a great way to explore the gorgeous scenery! The Santa Fe Ski Area also offers some of the most underrated slopes in the state.
5. Experience New Mexican Cuisine
Santa Fe calms down during the winter, so you rarely need to wait for a table when you dine at one of the many restaurants. Take a break from the chilly weather and head indoors to try some excellent New Mexican food. Our city is known for its cuisine, and once you try it for yourself, you will see why!
