Though there are plenty of fantastic things to do in Santa Fe in the winter, including fun winter activities like skiing at Ski Santa Fe and snowshoeing at Valles Caldera National Preserve, many of our guests love to turn to slightly warmer activities. For that, we recommend visiting Museum Hill Santa Fe or one of the other incredible Santa Fe Museums within walking distance of our Bed and Breakfast in Santa Fe

Santa Fe is known for its rich confluence of culture, fantastic art galleries, and sensational museums. Some of the best museums are found on Museum Hill Santa Fe. Don’t Miss Museum Hill Santa Fe

Though there are several can’t-miss Santa Fe museums in the downtown core surrounding the Santa Fe Plaza, there are even more found on Museum Hill Santa Fe. Museum Hill Santa Fe is home to four world-class museums and makes a great starting point when dipping your toe into the world of Santa Fe.

Museum Hill Santa Fe is also where you’ll find the stunning Santa Fe Botanical Garden, a stunning plant-rich landscape set amidst a backdrop of Piñon Pines and Juniper Woodlands. In addition to being a space dedicated to preserving New Mexico’s biodiversity, the Santa Fe Botanical Gardens also houses some fantastic sculptures on its art trail.

While we highly recommend you meander through the gardens at the Santa Fe Botanical Garden, there’s more to see at Museum Hill Santa Fe. Museum Hill Santa Fe is considered one of the city’s great cultural hubs, with museums representing the different facets of Santa Fe’s cultural history.

  1. Your first stop at Museum Hill Santa Fe should be the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture. It features an impressive collection of Native artifacts, including jewelry, pottery, and glass. In addition to these exhibits, you can experience live storytelling or historical songs from modern-day artists.
  2. Once you’re done there, head to the Museum of International Folk Art, which features an extensive collection of Folk Art from around the world. More than 100,000 artifacts represent more than 100 countries – one of the world’s most diverse representations of culture.
  3. Another great stop at Museum Hill Santa Fe is the Wheelwright Museum of the American Indian. This delightful Santa Fe Museum features exhibits from both contemporary and traditional Native American art. The building in which it’s housed is a work of art representative of the culture inside. The eight-sided building is a nod to the traditional Hogan homes used by the Diné (Navajo) people.
  4. Finally, there’s the Museum of Spanish Colonial Art with works from New Mexico’s Spanish Colonial era. Exhibits include bultos, retablos, paintings, and fiber arts, all housed in a striking example of Spanish Colonial architecture.

As you can see, it would be easy to spend a full day – if not multiple days – exploring Museum Hill Santa Fe. Luckily, there’s a great restaurant where you can take a break and enjoy lunch – Wheldon’s Museum Hill Cafe. Like so many of the best restaurants in Santa Fe, the food here is divine!
